Negros booters eye Group A sweep

GROUP A leader and host, Ceres-Negros Selection, go for a sweep Tuesday in the ongoing Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Suzuki Under-23 National Cup quarterfinals as they bang against Luzon’s No. 1 Masbate Football Association at the Panaad Park and Stadium football pitch in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
The Negrense booters remained undefeated with 2-0 card while Masbate holds a 1-1 record.
The host-team is expected to rely on their offensive attacks from Fil-American striker Joshua Beloya, Aldrin Dolino and Jovin Bedic. These players led the Negrense squad’s victories in the last two games.
Masbate will still be missing the services of David Fornea who led the squad’s victory in its match against Dipolog last Friday with his goal in the 5th minute of the match.
Fornea was slapped with a two-game suspension after an outright red card on that game.
Executive Assistant and Provincial Sports Coordinator Angel ‘Nonong’ Verdeflor urged the Negrenses to go out, cheer and support the Negros Team in its quest to give honor to the province.
Meanwhile, Negros team Assistant Coach Ramon Janeo said that they are in tough preparation for the semis on Sunday, May 15. He stressed that, while it’s true that they lead Group A, the semifinal matches would be different. “We have to prepare the team for a tougher battle in the semis. There are three strong teams playing in Bracket B that include Iloilo, Laguna and Davao,” he said. (Sun.Star Bacolod)
