Springdale boots out SHS-Ateneo to advance

DESPITE the muddy football pitch which made it difficult for the players to pass the ball, Paref-Springdale booked a finals seat today against the Los Amigos in the 11th Cebu Amateur Football Club Interclub (CAFC) National Football Cup at the Springdale football field.

Springdale defeated Sacred Heart School- Ateneo De Cebu 2-1 in yesterday’s Boys 12-Under semifinals.


Jomigo Rafols scired first for Springdale in 4:31 minutes, before Ateneo’s Kurt Cuizon tied the match with a goal in the 12th minute.


With eight minutes left and Ateneo making two failed attempts to score, Springdale’s Ryan James Haosen shocked the crowd as he took the ball from the halfway line and made an incredible score to lead, 2-1.

“It was really a difficult game for my players on the muddy pitch but I am glad that they were able to pull it off. I just hope we will have a good weather for tomorrow’s finals,” Springdale’s head coach Mario Ceniza said.

Springdale will have a tall order when they face tough players from Los Amigos of
San Carlos City, who scored an 8-0 win in their semifinal match against Danao.


Los Amigos’ Shanden Vergara contributed four goals for Los Amigos, while Tristan Perez had three. Derick Clivert Domicello contributed one for the team.

Last year, Springdale bowed to Don Bosco Technological Center in the 12-Under boys finals.

In the Boys’ 10, San Roque Royal United (SRRU) booted out Danao in a penalty shootout, 4-3, for today’s finals. SRRU will face Ateneo, which defeated Queen City United, 5-2.

Mandaue Technological Institute won against Ateneo, 2-1, to face Abellana National School in the Boys 14-Under finals. ANS booked a finals seat after blanking Ormoc FC, 4-0.

In the Boys 17-Under, Blessed John Seminary bowed to Manila Soccer Academy, 6-2, while Ormoc FC pummeled University of San Carlos North Campus, 8-0.

USTC faces Aroroy FC of Masbate in today’s Girls 17-Under finals.

In the last day of the men’s open elimination round, D-League bowed to USTC, 7-0, and SRU won against Hijos Del Pueblo, 5-2.

In today’s men’s open semi-finals, Hiroshi will face SRRU, while Waterfresh Queen City United will play against USTC. -ss
