Stallion beats Don Bosco in Smart Club elims

ILOILO CITY -- Stallion Football Club (FC) of Barotac Nuevo routed Don Bosco United FC of Cebu, 8-0, in the Smart Club Championships all-Visayas regionals held at the Central Philippines University (CPU) football field on Tuesday.
Former national player Jovanie Simpron led the Stallions with 4 goals, including a hat trick in the first half, against the outclassed Cebuanos for their first win.
The Stallion’s Korean player Kim Seon Jin combined with compatriots Nam Yeoh No and Lee Jeo Young on offense and defense that resulted in their lopsided victory during the event sponsored by Smart and organized by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF).
“I have to hand it to the South Koreans, who were able to blend well with the locals right away so we were able to play a very good game,” Stallion coach Ernie Nierras. “They did what I wanted them to do on the pitch.”
“Siyempre masaya dahil malaki ang naitulong sa panalo,” said the 26-year-old Simpron, who played for the nationals in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup qualifiers in 2009.
Don Bosco coach Eugene Ynclino III, meanwhile, said they barely had a week’s practice, and that most of his main players stayed in Cebu because they could not leave their respective jobs.
“We practiced only eight days as a team so there really was no time to gel. Our top players were also unable to file leaves,” Ynclino said. “But these are not excuses because we played a very good team.”
