LIVERPOOL LAUNCH ACADEMY IN INDONESIA

JAKARTA (16 May 2011) – Five-times European champions Liverpool have launched a football academy in Jakarta – the first of their kind outside of Europe.
Former player Phil Neil was also at hand to conduct a Coaching Clinic at the Sports Complex in Soemantri Brojonegoro in Jakarta.
“I feel very comfortable being with these young talents and I hope that one day, they will grow to be future players of quality and able to showcase their talent at the world stage,” added Neil.
Phil Neil, who was accompanied by several coaches from Liverpool FC International Academy, was also involved with the programme organised by the Embassy of Great Britain in Indonesia called “BritCham’s Giving Kids A Sporting Chance”.
Alison Blackburne from the embassy said that football is an important link between the two countries and having this programme will be of mutual benefit.
“Indonesia and England share a common interest which is football and we are grateful that Phil can be here today to support this programme,” added Alison.
After four years of Britcham programme, the number of participants has increased from just 100 to 3,000 young footballers.
