Little Azkals to face Magis Eagles today

THE PHL Boys 13-Under squad will be seeing action today in two exhibition matches at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) football pitch in preparation for its international stint next month.

The PHL Boys 13-Under squad, also known as the Little Azkals, will be facing SHS-AdC’s 14-Under and 16-Under teams at 3 p.m.


The Little Azkals are holding their training camp here in at the Don Bosco Boys Home Liloan. Some 30 players from different areas of the country have been picked to join the training pool.


“So far, some are still adjusting because they are still new to the team, especially those that came from the Palaro,” said PHL Boys 13-Under head coach Oliver Colina.

In a recent exhibition match this month, the Little Azkals beat the Central Visayas team, 5-2, at the Don Bosco Liloan pitch.

Cebuanos

Of the 30 players, eight are from Cebu and the locals are hoping to make the 22-man final cut.

The Cebuanos who will be vying for a slot in the national squad are Major Dean Ebarle of the Abellana National High School, Ivan Palmero of Lahug Elementary School, Mario Lorenzo Ceniza of Paref-Springdale, Moiselle Alforque and Vincent Lovitos of Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), Kintaro Miyagi of Bright Academy, Lawrence Colina of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation and Lorenzo Giuseppe Genco of CLC.

The Little Azkals will be competing in the Asian Football Confederation Under-13 Festival of Football on June 1 to 6 in Sabah, Malaysia against Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Timor Leste, Vietnam, Myanmar and Australia.
