Football fans to see Azkals, UFL All-Stars, 'Kaholeros' in Sunday friendly at UMak

The men's national football team will face the All-Star selection of the United Football League (UFL) in an exhibition match at the University of Makati football field Sunday.

For moral support, the newly-formed 'booster squad' will be at the grandstand to lead the crowd in cheering for all the players. The squad, nicknamed Kaholeros, will familiarize the fans on the cheers, chants and moves they will perform on July 3 in the second leg of the World Cup Qualifiers Round 1 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

"There will be an abundance of talent on both sides as the league showcases its finest players against the country's best," according to UFL organizer Football Alliance.

Playing for the Azkals are UFL standouts Aly Borromeo and Anton del Rosario of Kaya Cignal, Air Force Rider linchpins Chieffy Caligdong, Ian Araneta, Yanti Barsales and Mark Ferrer, Global Smartmatic striker Misagh Bahadoran and Army Fritz and Macziol IBM stars Roel Gener, Ricardo Becite, Nestorio Margarse and Eduard Sacapano.

Goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, midfielder Simon Greatwich and defender Jason Sabio are the foreign-based Azkals slated to go on the pitch. The Younghusband brothers, James and Phil, will also suit up to play.

The Football Alliance said the friendly game "will give Azkals coach Hans Michael Weiss another opportunity to gauge his team's progress in preparation for the Sri Lanka match."

"Prolific strikers Izo El-Habbib of Global Smartmatic and Mark Hartmann of Loyola Meralco Sparks will be among the players to watch, along with wingers Aaron Altiche of Global and Floriano Pasilan of Green Archers Orient Freight," the Football Alliance said.

Former national player Jerry Barbaso will play for Global Smartmatic. Air Force goalkeeper Edmundo Mercado and midfielder Randy Bela-ong are also part of the UFL team along with Army players Meliton Pelayo and Rommel Villaruel, Global's Valentin Kama, Arye Ayi and Ange Tressor Guiso.

Kaya Cignal will field Eric Dagroh, Lexter Maravilla and Anto Gonzales while Loyola Meralco will have Patrick Ozaeta and Alvin Valeroso play alongside Nomads striker Steve Borril and Green Archers midfielder Enrique Romero Salas.
