FILI FALL TO UFL ALL-STARS
MANILA (10 June 2011) – The Universal Football League (UFL) All-Stars team gave an injection of reality to the aspiration of the Philippines national side when they scored a 4-3 win over the latter in a friendly this week at the Makati Field.
The match was being used as a tune-up for the Philippines national side preparing for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Sri Lanka at the end of the month.
Led by 38-year-old Yanti Barsales, Philippines were the first to make the score sheet off Emilio Caligdong before UFL bounced back for the equaliser and then the lead from Mark Hartmann early in the second half.
Simon Greatwich then put the score at 2-2 before the Philippines defence lapsed again for the UFL to nose in front to 3-2.
Striker Ian Araneta’s goa gave the impressive that a draw was imminent only to see Izzeldin El-Habbib blasting in a powerful shot past Neil Etherideg for the winner. Source

UFL XI shocks Azkals in exhibition

MANILA, Philippines - Thanks to the United Football League All-Stars, the Philippine Azkals realized they still have a lot to work on to be ready for the World Cup qualifier.
The Azkals saw their romp come to an end at the hands of the UFL Stars, suffering a heartbreaking 3-4 loss in a test match last night at the University of Makati football field.
Global Smartmatic’s Izzeldin Elhabbib, the top scorer in the recently concluded 2011 UFL tourney, booted in the winning goal in the dying seconds of the match watched by a cheering crowd of about 10,000.

UFL stuns Azkals; 4-3
All-Star team turned out to be a cold reality check for the Philippine Azkals.
An injury-time goal by Sudanese striker Izo El-Habbib lifted the All-Stars to a thrilling 4-3 upset over the Azkals on Sunday night in a friendly match played before a crowd of 10,000 at the University of Makati pitch.
The Azkals, after taking the lead through Chieffy Caligdong’s 10th minute opener, needed to muster two equalizing goals until El-Habbib, who plays for Global Smartmatic, struck a thunderous shot from a tight angle to break the nationals’ hearts.

Football fans to see Azkals, UFL All-Stars, 'Kaholeros' in Sunday friendly at UMak
The men's national football team will face the All-Star selection of the United Football League (UFL) in an exhibition match at the University of Makati football field Sunday.
For moral support, the newly-formed 'booster squad' will be at the grandstand to lead the crowd in cheering for all the players. The squad, nicknamed Kaholeros, will familiarize the fans on the cheers, chants and moves they will perform on July 3 in the second leg of the World Cup Qualifiers Round 1 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Azkals battle UFL All-Stars in Makati Sunday

MANILA—The National team gets to gauge its progress in its preparation for the 2014 Fifa World Cup Qualifying when it takes on the United Football League All-Stars on Sunday in a friendly at the University of Makati pitch in Makati.
It will be the last test match for the Azkals before they leave for Duren, Germany, on June 12 for a two-week training camp as part of the buildup for their first-round qualifying match against Sri Lanka on June 29.

The match provides a fitting conclusion to a second season filled with enthralling matches and where the league gained headway in support following the success of the Azkals.
