Manila, JULY 3 (Sugod.com) – The league which produced the squad who defeated the Philippines national football team asked fans a very important question: “Would you like the UFL to be televised?”.
The idea of a full slate of regularly televised matches is still a long way away. But fans immediately liked the concept of doing live broadcast of UFL matches.
“I guess its about time to recognize (these) players and show the whole country that we also excel in other sports” said a fan in his comment on the social networking site.
“A big leap for football in the Philippines. By airing the UFL, it can attract more viewers, supporters and sponsors” another fan added.
Definitely, it is the first step to a thousand more.

Kaya Cignal stuns Airforce Rider
Skipper Aly Borromeo scored on a header right at the death as Kaya Cignal dealt Air Force Rider its first loss of the season, 1-0, in another well-attended United Football League playdate Sunday at the University of Makati pitch.
Borromeo, the captain of the national team, rose the highest to head past Air Force keeper Edmundo Mercado in the first minute of second half injury time as Kaya foiled Air Force, which was looking to move within a victory of clinching the title of the league backed by LBC Hari ng Padala.
The Air Force loss threw the title race back into the melting pot, but second-running Global Smartmatic was unable to fully capitalize on the defending champions’ slip after it was held to a 1-1 draw by Army Fritz and Macziol.
Global needed an 88th minute strike from Izo El-Habbib to avoid defeat, after national player Roel Gener had given Army a stunning 1-nil lead eight minutes earlier.
In the night match, Green Archers Orient Freight leaned on the brilliance of Floriano Pasilan, who scored both goals in the 2-nil win over Navy FC.
Inarguably one of the finest talents in the league, Pasilan, a fleet-footed striker, took his tally to five goals for the season with goals in the 40th and 45th minutes to power Green Archers to only their second win of the season.
UFL: Kaya, Archers wins; Global keeps second seed
by Jady Salonga
The LBC United Football League fixtures for the day complemented the scorching heat of the sun as it provided action-packed matches last May 15 at the University of Makati Football Stadium.
The intensity of the Air Force Rider and Kaya Cignal FC match was felt towards the end of the match. A last minute header by skipper Aly Borremeo gave the Air Force its first lost of the season. Kaya missed several of its players, while Ian Araneta of Air Force was not present at the game. "[It] feels good coming from los[ing and] finishing strong by defeating Air Force," said Borromeo.
Meanwhile, the match of Global Smartmatic and Army Fritz and Macziol IBM became very physical, especially in the second half of the match.
A collission in the corner of Jhonny Dalman and Eduardo Gempisaw caused commotion and complaints from the coaching staff of Army. However, a member of the audience heckled to the coaching staff, but it was averted immediately. Meanwhile, another commotion happened when Wilson dela Cruz and Oguejiofor Cusmas had a confrontion. However, Badrelin El-Habbib who, was substituted midway in to the match, was sent of by the referee for complaining.
A red card was issued to Luisitro Brillantes of Army for excessive contact (to a point afar seeing kicking) with Jerry Barbaso. Army captain Roel Gener scored in the 82nd minute, and to his jubilation, he did a couple of backflips afterwards. Five minutes later, Izzo El-Habbib equalized that ended the match with a draw. Global was able to keep the second seed, however, they were unable to capitalize the loss of Air Force.
In the final fixture, Christian "Tating" Pasilan's two-peat goals in the first half gave the Green Archers United Orient Freight its much needed peak, as they defeated Navy FC, 2-nil. This win puts the Archers back on the fifth slot, but the Loyola Meralco Sparks will face Army on Wednesday could still regain the slot.

Air Force faces Kaya; Global-Army duel up
Leader Air Force Rider faces Kaya Cignal in a critical United Football League clash Sunday at the University of Makati pitch.
The Airmen are targeting maximum points in the 2 p.m. duel that would put them closer to clinching the crown for the second straight year of the league backed by LBC Hari ng Padala.
With 23 points - seven points ahead of second-running Global Smartmatic - and with only three games left in their schedule, the Airmen can seal the title with two more victories.
The Air Force-Kaya clash is just one of the three important matches set at UMak, giving local football fans a rare treat.
Though national team standouts Anton del Rosario and Aly Borromeo have returned to power Kaya, they have continued to struggle collecting just four points in the last three games.
Air Force blanked Kaya, 3-0, in the first round with national players Chieffy Caligdong, Ian Araneta and Yanti Barsales scoring a goal each.
Barsales and Araneta are among the scoring leaders in the league.
In another match, Global hopes to start its uphill climb to steal the crown from Air Force.
They are hard-pressed for a victory against a formidable Army Fritz and Macziol side in the 4 p.m. game.
Global's campaign got off to a promising start with four straight wins, but a run of four draws coupled by the Airmen's return to form have dimmed their chances of unseating the champions.
That's why they are left with no recourse but to do better than the 1-1 result they claimed against Army in the first round.
Army is still in the title race with 15 points, just one behind Global, but their chances will also hinge on the result of Air Force's last three matches.
Bottom teams Green Archers and Navy meet in the last match at 6 p.m. with both squads hoping to avoid relegation.
