Baguio: 1st MGD Football Cup kicks off next month

IN PREPARATION for the upcoming men's national championship, an age group football competition is set to kick off next week hoping to lure top football teams from Baguio City and Benguet.

Dubbed the 1st Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan Football Cup, a men's 11-a-side tournament and a 7-a-side ladies open will topbill the month long competition which will also feature five age group competitions.
The tournament, which will also be part of the Goshen backed Baguio United Football Club, is making its mark in the national competitions as they head to Barotac Nuevo for the national championship of the Smart Men's National Open Club Championship.


Despite suffering a 6-0 loss against Rizal, the team regrouped to defeat Masbate, 1-0, then edged Naga-Camsur, 3-0, despite a fighting 11 member squad in the all Luzon leg of the tournament held at the UP Los Baños recently.

The Summer Capital booters made it to the All Luzon leg after defeating Laguna, 4-0, before drubbing Tarlac, 3-1, and then blanked Quezon Province, 9-0, in the Northern-Southern Luzon leg earlier.

The age group competitions will include the 16, 14, 12, 10 and 8 under age group categories with competitions formally opening on July 2 at the Melvin Jones Football grounds.

All age groups are open to boys and girls. Registration fee is pegged at P1,000 for the men's open while all other categories will be at P500.

Age groups will be played on the following dates: July 2-8u and 10u; July 9-12u and Ladies Open; July 16-18u; July 23-16u.
