CEBU football coaches are set to attend the Fifa Grassroots Pro-Active Instructors Course hosted by the San Carlos Negros Football Club on June 20-28.
Eleazar Toledo, Oliver Colina and Bro. Jose Mari Aberasturi will be joining 33 other grassroots managers nationwide under the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) in a series of lectures at the Algers Community Center and practical sessions at the San Julio Realty Football Club.
The three Cebuanos actively promote football in the municipalities of Cebu as they conduct clinics and help form clubs that will be supported by the Local Government Units.
That program will culminate with a province wide Governor’s Cup for the 12- and 10-Under teams.
CFA president Richard Montayre, also the head of the PFF’s grassroots program, said they hope to have the Cebu program adopted nationwide.
The PFF requested Fifa for this project to help strengthen the grassroots program in the country where football is gaining popularity.
Fifa will send instructor Takeshi Ono to facilitate the program together with Fifa development officer Jeysing Muthiah. Assisting them will be PFF technical director Ariston Caslib and AFC elite instructor Marlon Maro.
An opening dinner to welcome Fifa and PFF instructors as well as participants will be hosted by city mayor Gerardo Valmayor Jr. on June 20.
The activity, hosted by San Carlos FC under the Negros Occidental Football Association, is part of the club’s active participation in promoting and developing football in the Visayas area.
They recently hosted the National Men’s Under 19 Championship with the support of the local government.
