MANILA, Philippines – The “Teen Azkals” set to compete in the ASEAN Football Federation Under-16 Youth Championship 2011 in Laos received words of encouragement from one of their idols, Azkals striker Chieffy Caligdong.
The Azkals co-captain joined the younger football squad's send-off dinner on Tuesday.
“Sinasabi ko lagi sa kanila na always believe in yourself. ‘Wag nilang i-compare ang sarili sa iba,” said Caligdong, who helped the Azkals to a 4-0 victory over the Sri Lankan Brave Reds last Sunday.
Skie Carranza, Teen Azkals team captain, said they are proud to represent the country.
“Masarap po ang feeling pag dala dala nyo ang Philippine flag sa jersey. Nakaka-encourage po sa laro namin kaya atat na atat na kaming maglaro sa labas,” he said.
The squad flew to Vientiane, Laos on Wednesday morning.
The competition will run from July 7 to 21. – With a report from TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News
